A bit of French flare (via Metis Ownership) and pups...

Bonjour Everyone....

Who doesn't appreciate a bit of French flare (une petit peu)? As someone who is married to a Metis woman (the owner) who is connected to French heritage... I appreciate it every day. The author has spent the past few days in Quebec city where I thoroughly enjoyed various aspects of Quebecois hospitality. People are familiar with the term "Joie de vivre" meaning Joy of life... from my perspective it is a true reflection of the way people like to live their life in Quebec (and everywhere). They like to joke, play games, have fun, and appreciate beauty.  Sometimes the appreciation of beauty is a difficult thing to take time to absorb. A lot of our adult life is filled with concerns of economics, politics, and other practical components of life that don't offer space for deep joy.

Years ago I worked in Northeast Saskatchewan at an apiary with a gentleman who was from Quebec (Eric Bouchard). Several times when we had weekends off I invited him to visit Saskatoon (we stayed at my Parent's house) and I served as host to take him to various sites in the city. One stop in particular stands out in my mind. We visited the weir where there are always pelicans that congregate at the bottom of the water flow where it is easy for them to catch fish. It was a beautiful day when we were there, but I only expected to spend five minutes having a look and then moving on. Eric wanted to stay and we sat for much longer than I would normally factor into my day. He wanted to spend the time to really take in what he was seeing, and that opened my mind to the idea that if you rush through life a lot of the best things the universe has to offer will be missed (or will not be profoundly appreciated). His counsel whispered the concept in my mind that sometimes we need to suspend the itinerary of our days to catch the vibe that really provides value in our life.

Buffalo Pound Lodge is the perfect place to catch that vibe. We intend it to be a space where the universe can whisper into your mind that it is time to suspend your itinerary and take in joy and beauty. Our big brains struggle to keep things in the present (to be Zen).

Dogs don't struggle in that way (and we are super dog friendly). They always have joyous ideas in their heads... They whisper to us "Hey dummy let's go for a walk"! Take up their challenge and live with joy... don't forget that in your day, or in your Summer holidays.

The puppy ("qimmek" is the word for "dog' in Inuktitut) pictured in this blog (named Goose) is my sister's companion and he lives in the Northern Inuk region of Quebec (at Kuujjuaq PQ).  He has Joie de vivre! The Quebecois and Metis people were often referred to as "coureur de bois" (runners of the woods). Buffalo Pound Eco-Lodge will offer immersion in that history and offer guests the opportunity to be the runner of your world, to suspend practical demands so you can experience joy and beauty.

If you have some ideas about how we could make your stay perfect, please let us know. We might not always be able to meet everyone's ideas, but we'll do what we can to accommodate your desires.

We want to be more than (using the Quebecois word) an "auberge". The simple translation for this word being "auberge" = an inn or hostel, but it's also used to describe places that offer historical and rustic ambiance. We will add joy & beauty to historical and rustic ambiance. Book now so you don't miss out!
